Let us assume you are the perfect driver. Any sized vehicle. You are keeping speed down, extra following distance etc. You see and stop your vehicle before you hit the wrecked vehicles in front of you.
As you pat yourself on the back BBAAAAMMMM.
Another vehicle possibly a very large one hits you hard and shoves you into the next 3 vehicles.
The reason these thing happen is complicated. Yes there are drivers going to fast for conditions. There are also drivers going too slow for conditions. But the biggest factor causing this type of accident with increasing frequency is the huge increase in the density of traffic on the average interstate today, way beyond the original design capacity. Get ready for more and more of them
More idiocy..time to start revoking cdl's

I've taken the ditch twice to avoid being in a pile up, once on 4 lane, once on 2 lane.
I went through the median and managed to plow my way through the snow, past the pile up and back onto the highway again.
On the 2 lane I took the curb side ditch, got slowed down and drove up the other side onto the parking lot of an auction barn where a cattle auction was going on.
Boy Howdy, were they ever surprised to see me!88228822, FerrissWheel, Bud A. and 5 others Thank this. -
I was doing 30 mph, and vehicles were FLYING past me. I'll absolutely guarantee I was passed by some of the vehicles in this video.
Absolutely terrifying weather that day. Everyone just assumes the best and flies along.
Every time I drive in weather like that, I simply ask myself "If I had to stop, could I?"
Get off the ####### accelerator if the answer is no.88228822, Anonymousproxy, homeskillet and 9 others Thank this. -
People are stupid. They feel safe following a group it’s instinct. But it’s completely ####ing wrong in situations like this.
I always say on the CB and to the window “go be stupid somewhere else, I’m busy”FerrissWheel, mjd4277, Flat Earth Trucker and 4 others Thank this. -

My number came up last year.
Wasn't even on the clock it was the drive in. Really pissed me off (made me very angry) because I was watching the weather and I was sure that the load/job I was assigned was gonna be problematic. Turns out I never even made it to the yard. I had that car for 12 years and I was never gonna part with it. Bodywork is misleading, that hole in the bumper goes all the way to the firewall and everything under the front of the car worth anything was wrecked. Over $8k in damage when the shop stopped bothering counting and just totaled it, and there was no guarantee the subframe could be straightened. If it could get back on the road it would be a salvage title, which even under the best circumstances would lead to even more headaches.homeskillet, FerrissWheel, mjd4277 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Wasn't as popular as it's predecessor because less power,
yet they're still more than capable of putting themselves in a treeline rear end first. Even harder to find a good one, low mileage, and I took for granted mine had leather, (it wasn't a common option.) also they tend to swallow catalytic converters through the exhaust valves and grenade the cylinders.
I had mine, I loved it, I killed it.
It's time to move on.homeskillet, FerrissWheel, starmac and 1 other person Thank this.
