man - talk about sideways doom and gloom reporting -

the story was not even scratched in this press release...

sure the conversion to a PnD center will result in OTR jobs lost - but the inflow of freight will be greater from other regional SC's.

    (OTR jobs created)

Jobs shifted at most, not created.

I was wondering how losing say 50 jobs in one town and maybe gaining 40 in another town could be considered otr jobs gained.

If an OTR job is posted in a terminal that did not formerly have an OTR position -

and if due to the Gaining code or losing code of that terminal - the OTR job is new

Then the job was not shifted - it is "new".

I will say that you are correct in one regard - your idea applies to the gaining breakbulks in the regions - where as displaced workers could bid during the phone in period next week.

We do that differant down here.

If you steal $50 from me, and I catch you, after you've only spent $10. Then beat you down and take the $40 back.

Yer still going to jail for stealing $10.

You'll just have some extra bruises.

You must know more to the story than is printed. From what I read 400 will keep jobs, 210 will lose jobs, or transfer out of town, if anything is even available to transfer to.

It looks like the two companies overlapped jobs, and one terminal will be created instead of two, using less people. The type of operation may be changed, but the net is people are going to lose jobs.

about 70% of the customer base was overlapped - but snce the yellow guys are bringing their freight with them - and since our network is (will be) even larger - our 2 day and 3 day rates will be more competitive than they were (are) right now...

once it gets up and running - YRC Trk should be able to bring back most that are laid off.

    (1 to 2 year window)

because the losing terminals will rebound and call back laid off guys - or hire from outside if all of the laid off guys come back -

in the mean time - the "new" positions at the other terminals will be set.

    i.e.

Dayton Ohio 1st COO of 2005 we lost 23 drivers - they picked up 5...

(net loss of 18) (for about 6 months)

then during the 2nd COO of 2005 we picked up 30 - and they picked up 2 more

so at the end of the year we actually gained 14 total in our district.
