The oil mystery continues .....
Last week it guzzled up a gallon going from broken bow ne to Finley oh ..about 1200 miles ...heavy load no wind , no idle run around 65 ...topped it off at Toledo oh .
Toledo oh to Columbus nebr nice and heavy wind all the way ...no idle usaul speeds .
Columbus ne to needles cal 24k in the box , no idle , 55 to 68 fought 50 to 60 mph winds all thruNebraska and Kansas .
About 2400 miles and pulled the stick at needles ...used about a quarter gallon lolBroke Down 69, Vic Firth, Shock Therapy and 1 other person Thank this. -
They should have your vin and engine serial number.
Ask them to run the numbers and see if it may be from the time frame that had problems. I would press them to at least test it at no cost.Broke Down 69, Vic Firth, Shock Therapy and 1 other person Thank this. -
You check it hot or cold, reason being, when cold, sometimes it pulls enough vacuum to show a level higher than it is?
Some N14s had an expanding handle to seal the dipstick, probably to keep from blowing it out. If you can, try shutting it off, and checking last thing after fueling, it will be warm, the oil should be drained, reasonably level, etc. It's a large reservoir, so a gallon is probably the range on the stick.
Morehouse mechanics like that engine, and should know it pretty well.
If you're burning the oil, it should show up as more frequent regens. Don't take this wrong, my experience with DPF and ISX is very limited. Been around lots of engines of many vintages, though.
I'm more familiar with the newer Detroits. That 60 series in the 2008 wasn't bad. I like the new one better, though. The next year build was better yet (I drive a 2013).Broke Down 69, Shock Therapy and Panhandle flash Thank this. -
Its ok it's not like it's pregnant lol...when the time comes ill have it operated on but this is truck number 7 and have never seen oil consumption jump around like this .
When it gets a gallon low ill thru some Lucas in it and see where things go .Shock Therapy Thanks this. -
