Oil and filters are cheap compared to major components failing.

Something that might be worth a try. Change the filter and top off every 10k miles. Run an oil analysis each time. This will give you a look at what is going on over time. Then at 30k do a full drain and start over. After 6 of these cycles ( 60k miles), you should have a good read on what a full drain cycle needs to be. The only other thing would be finding a good small micron filter to run.

Bypass is a good idea. You can get the parts to build and install from good marine supply shops. Will be cheaper than a truck shop. Still need to change filters every 10 to 15k, then add, plus run analysis. Still would do full drains on a regular basis.

Not to disagree but if you read for about 2 hours on rawze.com I wouldn't even consider extended drain intervals on an ISX engine.

I have no plans on extended drains ...I've been dropping my rottella dino at 12 to 15k and ill drop the semi syn at 17 to 20k .
Oil will always be cheaper than metal .

Good move imo! If you're planning on keeping this truck for a few years, bypass filtration would be a worthwhile investment. Soot seems to be the worst enemy in these engines and anything you could do to limit that would be a bonus. You got a nice ride Brad and the pride shows through in the pics you've posted.

Thank you tony and I appreciate it .
I'm 55 ..truck will be paid off in a little less than a year barring a major failure with 645k on the clock now and after 7 trucks this one will be the last .
Even on semi syn and shortened up drains it has used 2 quarts in 2509 miles so I'm sure ill be overhauling it by 800k .
Bypass filtration is great and I get it but after this is paid off I'm slowing down and it will be running fine long after I call it a day .......
In other news the trip with my lady friend is going well but at 4 days in I'm sure she can't wait to get back to Omaha lol.
