FMCSA Regulation 391.23 (a) (1) requires at least 3 years.

Some offense are there for life. Others 10 years, 7 etc.

It depends on the nature of the offense.

The FMCSA requires a carrier to build and maintain a driver qualification file. They can be fined for missing data in that file. YES they do at least 3 years.

Yes I know it has to be atleast 3 years. My question is how far back do most companies check for? 3yrs? 5 yrs? 10 yrs?

Thank you for your replies. I am selling my pizza shop in a couple weeks and want to get my CDL but my driving record isn't very clean past 3 years.

Most 3. The ones that go 5 years or more are premium type jobs like Walmart, UPS, and Abf etc.

They can see everything on your MVR even from 20 years ago. But they won’t ding you on your past. They shouldn’t you just got to meet their insurance criteria. Believe me I have some traffic misdemeanors from 18 years ago that still show on my MVR before I was a truck driver. My current job Saia didn’t care. I was approved by USPS and UPSF.

    Blackandgold and InTooDeep Thank this.

They can see your lifetime mvr if they wanted.

FMCSA requirement is 10 years. That's what I was told by my local division.

Actual requirement would be up to the companies insurance.

    Blackandgold Thanks this.
