no...not what you think. My first time going into Utah. Anyone have any suggestions? I had a run from Iowa to NC, stopped for the night in Columbus terminal. Remembered since i had been running Great Lakes Regional for the last 18 mo., i dont have any chains on my truck, so i bought a couple sets of duals (to be legal in Co.). But if its bad enough to chain, i dont/wont drive. (cause even if you chain, and get into a wreck, regardless whos fault, it'll still be preventable)
but anyway....anybody have any tips for travel in Utah? I'm headed to Ogden.
My first time......

You'll also need some singles for the trailer. When you get to Utah dial 511 for road reports. Often Parlay will have chain law but Echo won't, a few miles further, although if you are going to Ogden you will stay on 84 through Echo but it may help you if you are reloading further South.
DickJones Thanks this. -
thanx for the info......i should get a single, but i honestly dont have any room in my side compartment on this truck. one thing i miss about a Volvo or even a T2000 is you had about 3-4" more in height in your side compartment. Cant really just chain chains down to my catwalk, or they'll grow legs....
i know Utah is due for 3-6in of snow. How bad does it get up there in the mountains? -

Take the doubles back and get singles. The singles stay on better and do less damage when flying off.

DJ, I lived in Ogden (Hill AFB) for a couple of years. Those hills can get hit pretty heavy with what the locals call "lake effect" snow. As the wx comes off the desert, it picks up alot of moisture from the Salt Lake, which gets dumped on the west side of the Wasach range (just east of Ogden). Basically, when there's snow forcast, the west side gets hit hardest.
Be prepared. Safe run to you, sir. -
If you shake hands with one of the locals, count your fingers afterward. Hang onto your wallet. When they try to convert you, tell them you are a Jehovah's Witness.
Now you may think this was posted in fun. . . -
I am not looking forward to my drive tonight from Cheyenne through UT to Boise.
No no I am not. -
What Redd said-- if you don't intend to chain up, don't go past the point of no return. Once past that you must chain no if ands or buts. You will see "Chain up Area- 30 Minutes, No Parking" signs.
Accident in the snow I'm told is not automatically "Preventable" so get that rumor out of your head too : - )
