Hello everyone,I have My TN.Class A permit and am pursuing Tank and Haz Mat endorsements...I just cant bring myself to study for/get Doubles/Triples endorsements...The first two sentences in the second paragraph in Doubles/Triples section of the TN.CDL manual sums it up for me..." Take special care when pulling Doubles/Triples because THERE ARE MORE THINGS THAT CAN GO WRONG.

Things will go wrong in trucking that will boggle your imagination.

It's usually the tiniest flaw that breaks the camel's back.

    it's only written tests.

many companies especially LTL...REQUIRE the doubles.

I never knew ho to pull them either, then one night my boss told me someone will help me, and I follow him down to NJ.

that's how you will LEARN to pull doubles.

everything is just, well doubled. the hook ups, and disconnects.

simple advice, " don't look back at the tail and try to make adjustments, you'll go whacky"...

most times, when pulling the short doubles (or pups as they are known as) you go terminal to terminal in a day cab. so no sleeping time.

if however, you get a special NY thruway permit to pull the 48 foot doubles, commonly known as turnpike doubles, you "may" get a sleeper truck. I think in those situations, my buddy pulled into service plazas along his route, NOT truck stops. many times too, he'd take a break at the turnpike drop yards.

but pulling pups. you either find a pull thru, or park along side the curbing, run in, get your snack, and get the heck out. you got deadlines to meet.

the best advice I can give anyone is, "get all the endorsements you can now, while the prices of the tests are still the same. we all know that all states see us as "cash cows" and no telling when there will be a sweeping hike in testing fee's".

the only endorsement I WILL NOT GET, is passenger. for that, not only a written test, but also a road test in most likely a bus. you ain't gonna get a bus that easily. UNLESS you get a job as a trainee at a bus company, and they will let you use their bus at the DMV test site.

for me, truck driving is and was enough.
