Was just chatting with another driver and he mentioned what was going on and my first stop in town was to talk to the truck boss. Just a matter of getting your foot in the door while it is open. All in state work too.

Making connections is so important. You just never know when and how they will happen.

Not sure if I've ever shared how I got my current deal from my direct shipper.

I used to be a service/parts director at a car dealership about 45 miles north of my place. I always had a demo so I put the word out in my hometown that I'd pick peoples vehicles up to service them and leave my demo for them to drive until we got their vehicle done. I had a good following picking up friends of friends vehicles and such. I ended up picking up the shipping managers pickup from a local manufacturing company a few times for some warranty work. Didn't know him other then he was from town and a few years older then me in school.

Fast forward a few years and I'm trucking. I heard a rumor that a trucking company got kicked out of that guys company for poor service. I stopped by to bs and offer my services. He told me he had some other guys trucking but would keep my number in case. The following afternoon he called and asked if I could run a load for him and I've been there ever since.

That entire town was for sale not long ago. Even came with a job as postmaster.
