Same here if i have an issue with service that iam paying for i NEVER take the freebie,I just want the issue solved so others do not need to deal with it.I think it looks more meaning full in the complaint if i decline the freebie.

IMHO Truckstops are fast becoming "scam"centers for all sorts of unprofessional acts. I was scammed on a fuel purchase. The reader double billed me on a fillup and I only discovered it a few days later by going online and checking the charges. I use my fleetone card. Of course I complained and actually went back to the truckstop to confront the cashier. Talked with the Manager called Marion at the Petro in Glendale Ky where the event occurred and she was very cordial at first and admitted that and this is in her words,"Oh this happens more times than you would ever imagine" but after a couple of weeks of back and forth with no resolution, I called Marion again and OMG talk about a change of attitude. She virtually accused me of making up a story and lying, obtaining $$$ by deception, yada yada. OH really?? what for $195 ??
Thus I will never deal with this Petro again or ever use a reader again.
The truckstops showed their true colors when they caught the FJ/pilot with their pants down. They are not believers of decency and good customer service.
My advice is to always pay with a good Credit card, and I dont mean a ATM/Visa card. Then if there is a dispute and the staff is rude and obnoxious, just walk away and call the Credit card co. You can easily dispute a charge as long as its within 60 days and depending on the card, will give you an instant credit until the matter is resolved. No need to endure BS from a cashier/manager or whatever, just go do it and let them stew in their own juices.
These morons screw us on the fuel prices, high prices on "junk" food so its time to fight back and get even!!!drvrtech77 and VisionLogistics Thank this. -
The rest about overcharging on everything couldn't agree more. -
Well if you would carefully read what I said, I actually confronted the Manager. You are right though, the cashier would have no clue as to what the reader did.
However after I did my usual diligence the Fleetone customer service verified that it's the fault of the Truckstop and again, let me reiterate what she said to me
in her own words, "Oh yes, this happens more times than you would ever imagine" Thus, if it has nothing to do with the truckstop then she wouldn't have said to me later that she would have to investigate the error.
She then came back to me with a different tune and attitude and basically lied to me and gave me some #### and bull story about that the receipts matched the days takings and fuel consumption. As if they are going to painstakingly go through that analysis. It doesn't work that way. But the bottom line no matter how you slice or dice it, I'm out $195 and if you are so bright, you tell me how you can tackle a "third party" credit card merchant, that is somewhere in left field operating in Lala land between the Truckstop and Fleetone. I think you have no idea what you're talking about. But thanks for your input. -
I'm finding more and more "accidental charges" on my cards from various truck stops. Most times, it's small, i.e. under $20, and when I go back to get it removed, the excuse from the cashier is "Oops, that must have been an item left from the last sale". Yes, they think I'm a total idiot apparently. That story has been used 3 times in the last year, at 3 different truck stops- 2 in Colorado, one in Kentucky... all 3 times it was a register purchase. I suspect the cashier scanned an item, or punched it in, and left the sale open, waited for the next paying customer and when they left, the cashier opens the till and takes the profit. Plausible deniability.
Last December at the new Loves in Idaho Falls, they charged me twice for my fuel purchase. The first time they ran it, they said it didn't go through and ran it again. Then I tried to pay for a dinner that night and my card was rejected for being over limit. Yes, that's right, Loves double charged the fuel, and get this: THEY REFUSED TO REFUND THE MONEY!! It took me 2 weeks to get that money back, to the tune of about $800. I'll tell you one thing: if I had pumped $800 into my tank, and told the fuel desk I'd be back in 2 weeks with the money, I'd have a fleet of bad-day-buggies behind me with their disco lights on before I got to the interstate.
Sick how vunerable you become once it's plastic, and not the fiat dollars issued by the fed. -
Cash is king. A weak king, but king nonetheless.
