Ok. Of course the compàny is going to get theirs. They are in business to make money, and to stay in business. They are not in business for me or any other driver. I love the posts that say "They only care about making money!!" Or "They have their own best interests in mind!!" Of course a company would. And if they didnt, you need to find a new job. Because that company will no longer be a company. Gordon, just like Lessors or Millis or any other company invests in trucks, trailers, terminals, mechanics, offices, and YOU. The driver is just as much of an investment as anything else is. They want to get the most for what they pay for you. Just like everything else. Just like you would. Stop acting as if a trucking company trying to make money and stay in business is a bad thing. Without them, you'd be out of work.

You know, for the amount of work that a driver contributes to a company, combined with the responsibility, the sacrifice and the working conditions; here's the bottom line: Drivers are grossly underpaid. In fact, the pay is downright lousy.
It's when people are afraid to question anything, while at the same time accepting mediocrity, that their lives (and livelihood) begin to suffer.
Sure, without the company, you wouldn't have a job. Don't forget, though, that without employees, there wouldn't be a company.
And these large companies really do have their own, best interests in mind. There are plenty of other, negative posts to support that fact. As long as the majority of drivers keeps trying to convince themselves and others that acceptance of driver abuse is somehow an indication of personal strength, well, then their conditions will never improve.
And here's a little secret that Gordon (and all the other large companies) hope that you'll never, ever, figure out: They need you every bit as much as you need them.

You have a valid point Joe.. all companies are out for themselves and what may appear to be concern over drivers is really self serving. That said I will admit that Gordon is not perfect and there are things I don't care for and have stated earlier but they don't cheat drivers out of money by paying short miles . They do provide well maintained equipment and pay an above average wage for the industry.

So far, so good. There are a few things that I dislike, the 84,000 macros, lol. But really, I drive a decent truck that's comfortable, I don't sit, they keep me busy, and for the most part I'm left alone to do my deal. Most times before I'm empty, they already have a preplan on me, which is nice. There are a lot of companies much worse than Gordon. I am enjoying it for the most part. The pros: the pay is good, trucks are good, health insurance is good and they keep you busy. Cons: 62 mph, 84,000 macros, and a little bit of micromanaging. But, it's a bigger company, that hires a lot of new drivers, so its to be expected. There are so many "drivers" who think the world owes them something or the company should bend over backwards for them. I only expect any company to get me home and pay me on time and correct, the way I deliver their loads. That's it. That's all I want. I don't need to be catered to, I don't need my backside kissed for doing my job, and I don't need anyone to hold my hand; I got it figured out. I don't expect any company to care about me. And neither should anyone else. As long as you're being paid for the work you do and are driving safe maintained equipment, what else are they supposed to do? Jiggle your balls when you need it? Change your diaper? Seriously. Do your job, get paid, go home. It's that simple. It's worked for me for the last almost 12 years. When you expect the world, you're gonna be let down. Every time.

Again very well put. Driving is what it is. There are a lot of low paying and unappreciative employers in this country. The big difference is most people go home after their shift is done where as an OTR driver lives in his truck and can't escape from the madness at the end of the day. We also know this going in to it and all the crying is not going to change anything about trucking. Hell the unions tried and almost had it right but then deregulation hit and really how many union OTR companies still exist?

Well, I am hanging out in your neck of the woods. I had a load to PA and doing a reset between drops at the Pilot in Bentleyville. I had drops in Cecil and Bethel Park at nurseries and there are some tiny roads and thanks to Rand McNally I almost got stuck in an underpass that was pretty much a one lane track. Height was okay, but the left turn going in and the right turn coming out made it a bit of a challenge. No scrapes and worse case scenario I would have had to back out about a mile to go around. Not the end of the world, but would have been late for the requested time to be at the nursery.

Hope things are still going well at the baby blue outfit. I used to work for a crane company in Tacoma WA and the owner and shop foreman went to school with Gordon. Hopefully all the macros don't give you the blues ;-). Glad we don't have any of that stuff. We are old fashioned and use trip envelopes, loose leaf paper logs and I can drive, fuel and do my thing. Nobody cares as long as I get my stuff done. Usually, I am on my own anyway with problems. The last time I called in with one the owner asked me what do you want me to do about it? So, I did what I thought was right and told him later how I fixed it and he was happy. Works for me.
