Hey there fellow truckers, I currently drive a daycab with no radio. I would like to know what setup can I purchase to have a radio utilizing the cigarrete lighter receptacle. I would prefer a small or medium radio with its own speaker as I cant make no alteration to the truck. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Build you a go box like ham radio users use and you should be able to set it in the seat and have speakers mounted inside or to the outside of the box.

Why not just take your ipod loaded up with your favorite music and get one of the bazillion wireless speakers they have out now, and hook your ipod up to it? You could do it via bluetooth or with the proper speaker wire which costs about five dollars. ipod nanos are about $100 I think and a super Boze wireless is about $200. Just set it in the seat beside you or on the dash or floor. If on the dash you can get a sticky thing especially made to keep stuff in place on the dash. It just peels off, no adhesive. Anyway you can use this set up anywhere, not only in the truck, and not have to build anything. Everything can be charged when you are home at night but won't need to be charged every day.

If you’re with ODFL - we used to be - I bought a unit with the Class 8 wiring plug in from Freightliner - pricey, but had XM, AM FM etc - and weather channel.

The plugs are usually there, depends if the truck has speakers installed, and if it’s a dedicated tractor or not.
