Mystery part in 3406B oil pan (picture)

I'm not gonna at wore out cause he gets @'ed too much, so @Oxbow? Doesn't look familiar, but it's been a bit.

 

Part of the plunger/valve deal in the air to fuel ratio I think, but that doesn't explain how it would get into the oil pan. I'll do some digging........

 

Big road beat me to it. I keep wanting to say plunger and barrel off an injector but the shape doesnt feel right compared to what was in my uncles rig unless its just a varation for a newer/older engine. Also been almost 20 years since i was elbows deep in a B model too so could be mistaken. Maybe @AModelCat knows?

 

Or oxbow will show up while im typeing and answer you lol. That works too.

 

I was thinking it would have had to come from the pump, but also couldn't see a path for it to be in the pan.

Sure sign I'm gettin old. I've rebuilt some pumps in the 90's, and don't remember that.

I never did enough to know them that well. Always had to follow the service manual step by step

Dont feel bad. Im the same way with my cummins and my old paccrap and i own(ed) the blasted things. Only reason i know B models somewhat well is my uncle had me help him rebuild two dozen of them in his fleet over 1 summer when i was 15. Im 35 now and havent touched one in person since so ive forgotten more then i remimber about them by this point.

 

Any thoughts on how it got from there into the pan? Not possible, is it?
