The dealer isn't always the best place to get work done. They hire rookies and jack legs too to work on your unit. Charge the same price as they would for a good hand. They can't find help either and have to take what they can get.

Ask around at truck parts dealers like truck pro about good independent shops in your area let then know its a cummins. Then find all info you can you cannot be too careful till you establish a working relationship

Ya got any buds that truck? Ask where they get their work u dont need a specialized work only on n14 shop. Im sure their is a local shop where u live gonna have to pick up the phone, independant shops work on all years and motors for the most part

Sounds as simple as bad injector, that's the only thing that's ever given me any grief on my N-14.I keep a spare one in my sidebox, very easy to install.Could just need the rack run, also.Pretty simple to find out which cylinder is missing,if you have a dead miss. When you start the engine cold, use a temp gun and check your exhaust manifold temps, see which cylinder isn't heating up.You can use your hands if you don't have a gun,be careful.Make sure all your injector wire harness plugs are all in and tight, but not with the engine running, high voltage, good luck.

Okay, we have this ticking sound now coming from the engine. It is not air related and comes depending on as if RPM is related with it. The ticking sound goes away around 60-70MPH but can sometimes still happen. It is like a tick tick sound. I dont know how to really explain it. I dont know if our cam is bad, or if the it could be related to the cylinders. We are getting good gas milage and replaced an bad injector but the sound was coming before the injector got placed. We also got a tune up, hoping the sound would go away but still have got no luck. If some people have had this problem please give me suggestions to what it could be. Thanks.

The ticking noise is probably a need of a overhead being done. If you oil pressure is u up around 33 psi at 1200 rpm then your cam bearings are still ok,you probably don't need a inflame. Precision Diesel service in Preston Idaho knows that engine well and could solve your problems.they have for me,that the engine I run in a '99 Pete.
