From the pictures I've seen, most of the carnage came from the post collision fire. That is something that has been growing since exhaust after treatment was introduced. Diesel has a relatively low autoignition point, and a regular exhaust down stream isn't that hot, but the dpf gets way above it. With a tank rupture, a fire is all but gauranteed!

The Government is actively suppressing fire data in near real time.

Im more than convinced DEF or related fluids have a hand in these excessive fires.

I cannot prove it and if I try, I would essentially destroy what little credibility I have left online and then be laughed out of town.

Two children and 3 adults. I am guessing parents didnt want to get out of their vehicles and seek safety at the edge of the road, All this carnage because the tanker driver was going too fast for a construction area.

I don't know the particulars but I'm guessing this crash probably occurred miles before any active construction zone given the dense traffic time of day and probably miles of backup. So to me, I suspect inattentiveness is probably the primary contributing factor.

And then some truckers complain and wonder why the trucking industry is so heavily regulated and why truckers have to deal with more and more oversight from employer and governments.

When an automobile driver screws up, the damage is usually minor in comparison to when an 80,000 pound tractor-trailer driver screws up.

And I'm sorry but the common excuse "auto drivers are the root cause of most truck crashes" does not fly in these all-too-common types of rear ending crashes into stopped or slowed traffic
