    Hi Guys,

I need a little advice, I'm looking at this 2003 Freightliner Century 12.7L Detroit Engine 430 hp. It has over a million miles on her but the guy has all the shop paper works showing an inframe was done right at 900K miles. The truck is in very good conditions and the price is pretty reasonable. Just wondering what you guys think. All responses are welcome..Thanks

12.7 Detroit is known for being one of the best out there... Great fuel milage and cheap to work on... If the price is right and you like it i say you should buy it...
Good luck and let us know if you do get it....

My 1999 KW has a 12.7 Detroit S60 engine in it. 1,156,000 on the original engine.
No overhaul yet...runs and pulls great....I barely even burn 1 gal between oil changes.
You can't ask for anything better...

The only issue with these engines? - The dam bull gear. Hopefully it was replaced at your overhaul.
DD recommends replacement at 750k...mine is still the OEM original. That's kinda scarey.

The Bull gear replacement by itself is 17hrs of labor and parts....About $2500 or so pending.

PS. You could consider a rig like a Kenworth that will last much longer than a 'fleet' truck
but I know costs can be a consideration too...

Everybody keeps talking the bullgear, the 3 Detroit shops I frequent for advice and parts have all said, that they have only replaced and seen a few dozen that had come apart.......

s60 12.7 are know for bull gears going out at high mileage. I to am working on a high mileage one. 3 million miles and only second gear in her....that's scary.

as for fleet truck kenworth makes fleet truck also. every truck is a fleet truck. still the same motors rears and tranny same plastic just different designes. my old girl is a 1996 freightliner classic. needs a good paint job at this point in her life but what wouldn't after 3 million miles and climbing if I can get a load tommorw...lol

what kind of fuel mileage does a 96 classic with a 3406 get? I drove them but don't remember. I found a nice one and was wondering. Oh it has 10 spd. Thanks
