Need advice about work history and getting hired in trucking.

The issue is how strict the DOT/FMCSA is about the driver qualification files and generally Part 391. There is nothing in the regs that requires a person to actually hold a job during that time. You only have to account for that time. My best advice is to take the steps to account for that time and find a carrier that won't hold a weak work history against you. @Chinatown might have some ideas.

 

6 months to a year of employment should get you back in the game. Had a spotty employment history around mid 2011s to 1st quarter 2013, but did consistent temp service work from then until September of 2014. CRST honored it and allowed me into their refresher program.

As stated above, it is the accounting for the past three years that is the requirement.

Problem is how you document the time.

The lack of any verifiable information for the entire 3 years is problematic as insurance usually has metrics requiring some experience in most cases.

No verifiable history makes one suspect regarding the ability for the company invest in someone who may not work out.

If OP was homeless, there may be some shelter and/or social worker interaction that could be documented and that could possibly open doors though the MEGA firms may still be reluctant as their hiring process is aimed at maintaining a sufficient number of drivers despite substantial turnover.

If OP has any previous driving experience; a temp firm or a company providing spotters may be an avenue to obtaining a better position in time.

 

Those clowns are too picky anyway. They think the sun rises and sets up their rear. Stay away from them period!

Just say you were self employed on a cash basis doing lawn care, handyman work, etc. Non licensed, no business taxes filed. Individual only. Schneider and others have no problem with that.

 

The easiest way to solve your problem is just tell them what they want to hear. Companies very rarely verify anything other than things they are required by law to verify.

There is no law that says you have to work, before you can drive a truck. There is no law that says you have to tell a company the truth. Anything a company should verify, but doesn't, is really none of your concern.

 

Work history is 1 of them that a lot want to check. Use to not be that way but sure is now.

 

They don't actually check most of the time. They just check a box on their computer screen, yes or no.

I'm not sure why you don't have work history but you could say you're someone's caretaker. Someone on here didn't have a formal job for quite some time and got hired on woth Covenant. Maybe try them. Put in apps everywhere and of one hits, take it. Get your foot in the door any way you can.
