Broke down in TN. Warranty instructed me to go to Freightliner. Willing to cover first repairs, but NOX sensor also an issue after. Will only cover $500, Freightliner trying to charge over $3000. Loves will only charge $700. Warranty company kicked their heels for 5 days, took another 9 for a cracked radiator to be fixed—that’s a 3-hour job! Told them after lost revenue and expenses for the two weeks I’ve been down, there’s not enough money left for excessive costs. All diagnostics have already been run at the Freightliner, but are now being told that if I go to Loves they’d have to re-run diagnostics???!!! Why? Basically, they’re trying to “box me in” to pay the extra $3000, or threatening that they’ll cover nothing. What can I do? Literally broke at this moment. I could afford the repairs that have already taken place, and could afford to take it to Loves, but CANNOT afford another $3000 that it shouldn’t cost, in the first place. Every day that I sit is another day closer to bankruptcy. Any help is greatly appreciated!

If the nox sensor being replaced by Love's is $700 get it replaced and get back to running. You don't have the $3k(not that I would pay it anyway). The system will correct itself. I had the nox sensor act up. It's is not a put you in limp mode sensor.

Just sell the truck and be done with ownership. If you can't afford a $3000 repair, you're pretty well done anyhow.
Iamoverit Thanks this. -
Sounds like a 3rd party warranty. Ain't worth the paper its written on.
Rideandrepair, ldbmc009, Diesel Dave and 1 other person Thank this. -
I’d be concerned letting love’s change a nox sensor. It’s not complicated, but if you’re not familiar with removing seized fasteners you can create a new problem.

I never worked on those Detroits. But I changed a nox sensor more than once in the parking lot on my cummins. They are fairly easy to do ... but like mentioned you should be able to get it down the road even with it being bad, mine just kept a check engine light on all the time.. I remember running it for quite awhile before I replaced it.

With Freightliner quoting $3k I suspect it may be a Scr closed loop code. If so it will need a regen and scr efficiency test to make the acm happy.Rideandrepair, ldbmc009 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
$3g is alot of money for a regen and happy acm. At $180 an hour.
Rush truck centers is a warranty authorized. Aren't they? I don't know about loves. Are they even capable?
Aren't there any Detroit shops?
When I had a ecm reflashed on a w900. I took it to cummins instead of the dealer. They were cheaper and could get me in first thing in the morning.
Are you dealing with an engine light issue or one of the critical engine lights? If it's just the standard light. It probably won't put you in limp mode. But don't quote me. I drive paccar. And i was told not to panic over the engine light. It's the critical lights that are to be concerned about.Last edited: Oct 26, 2024

I had no problems paying $3000 3 weeks ago, when I was squatted. What a snotty remark. I’m asking for advice, not your smart-### response. If you can’t manage to be helpful, keep it to yourself.
