i installed a cobra 29 wx nw st in my 2001 xterra both power and ground were run to the battery. I have a 102" wipe mounted on the rear passenger side. The builtin SWR metre says i have about a 1 to 1.5 match.Problem is i have like a half mile range.Did i do something wrong? or is there something i haven't done? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't go by the built in meter, get you an external meter to test the SWR

Well, thanks for stopping in. A SS whip was nice in in the 80's. Drags on everything. A 29 needs to be "tuned Up". Most CB shops can help you.

thank you for replying. there isn't a cb shop with in 500 miles lol

External SWR meter is the way to go. Just went thru some of the same . I have a 29 classic.

How did you determine you have a half mile range? There are a lot of variables involved. Terrain, noise level, and the people you are talking to are all factors.
A setup that does ten miles out in the open may be lucky to get a half a mile in town. -
Not to mention you can only talk as far as the person you are talking to! Your signal could be going 20 miles but the only person who answers is half a mile away.
