the mechanical engine days. When the electronic engines came out they
really lost out.
Detroit had a mechanical engine that wasn't that great.....so they spent
a lot of research dollars on the first Series 60.....it was a huge success for them.
To this day Detroit has a good engine. Volvo has a good engine, Mack has
a good engine. I don't see Cat spending the money to try and compete
with the modern day engines. They are really strong in the excavating/
offroad market. I think they will stick with what they are good at. -
Cat also is still very strong in their offroad engine production, most of which
are to big for the truck market. The 3500 series is still going very strong.....
from the smaller V-8 up to the larger V-20......diesel and natural gas.....a lot
of mining applications.....some Marine as well......
Cat is still very much a player in the engine market....just not truck engines. -
The 3406b was a great motor back in the day.
rocknroll81, REO6205 and clausland Thank this. -
Cat is sticking to offroad motors.
I think they tossed in teh towel for street motors. And the dump trucks they were building.
It was discussed on landline now. Couples years back when i heard the announcement. Don't remember the details now.
