It’s still not easy to find good old home grown American drivers with clean records, have the endorsements, and aren’t afraid of work.
The foreigners never apply to my company for whatever reason. They all seem to stick to a club that I must not be a part of.
For every 30 to 50 apps I get, there is one that stands out. Granted it seems like alot of people apply willy nilly without reading the details. I don’t want those type anyway. It’s refreshing when someone actually calls to follow up on applying and has researched the company and truly wants to get hired and join the team.Last edited: Dec 11, 2024

A buddy of mine hired on at Walmart about 3 years ago and got a $5,000 or maybe it was $7,500 sign on bonus I can't remember. I saw they were offering that or maybe it was $10,000 in Tomah, WI several months ago. When they really want to add drivers at certain DC's they'll sometimes offer that. It's just not a drivers' market when hunting jobs right now so nobody has to offer sign on bonuses.

A better idea: instead of looking for a sign-on bonus....look for a starter carrier that has a robust training program for brand new drivers.
