    Hello,

Hope all is well. I am looking to become a Freight Agent. Does anyone have any advice about starting? How profitable is it to be an agent? What are some things I should look for?

Finally, whats the best way to build my book of buisness?

    Thank you in advance

As soon as you get your broker authority your phone will be ringing off the hook with shippers calling you. Then just post them on ITS/DAT and sit in the living room in your underwear and watch cartoons and count the money.

    Phone comes to mind....

But do you have more info? Do you have any more experience in the industry / knowledge? Are you working from your home or in a big office like Coyote? Full truckload vs LTL, type of freight?

All of those will play a factor but the big one is learning about sales and getting the phone slammed down on you ~100x/day for the next few months. It's not easy but if you make it you will definitely do alright.

I think most of these brokers seem to enjoy this behavior. Seems that way to me since they never put any of the load's pertinent details in the comment section of the post. Sure would save lots of wasted time/calls if potential carriers knew those things beforehand.

You can learn a lot about a brokers thought process about the business from their load posts. My load posts tell you that I think my time is valuable. Or that I'd rather be posting on internet forums lol.

I'm starting to notice that trend.

What BOREDSOCIAL said, I don't understand not putting details in the load. The phone is already ringing off the hook, why would you want to answer the same questions over and over and over and.......

Always just enjoyed picking up the phone and having the guy on the other side already know what the plan was.

    boredsocial and DSK333 Thank this.

Exactly. I put as many details as possible when I post a truck. Ironically, the phone still rings off the hook with people on the other end that clearly didn't bother to read it.
