Well, I checked for boost leaks, and came up with none. So, now that leaves to question if the 900* cruising temperature will be a problem or not.
I have a date set up to get it turned to 550-1850.
And, as far as the jake brake sound issue. I knew something was out of whack, and it is.. I need to re-run the top end on it. the NO 5 cylinder jake brake rod or whatever its called is the only one that doesnt have a gap in it when idling. I pressed in the solenoids on the 3 packs (1-2, 3-4, 5-6) and the first 2 solenoids pop, then mellow out the jake sound. The 5-6 pack is the only one that pops and keeps popping loudly. So, after running the overhead, and getting the ecm reset, hopefully that will solve a few of my questions I have about things.tsavory Thanks this. -
Still waiting to see what your boost is.
In the summer, I run a 425 hp 3406 pulling 80,000 in the Northeast. Mine is a B model so there is no ECM. IIRC it makes 25 psi boost which probably means someone has played around with it a little bit because I was told the 425 made ~18 psi stock. Ambient air is usually 75 to 90 degrees F and the only time I get to 900 on the pyro is when I'm pulling a good hill. It will get alot hotter than that if I let it.
I wouldn't be comfortable cruising at 900. -
Yeah, boost gauge hasnt come in yet. Kinda irritating, but I have a page worth of other little fixing crap I'm currently doing. I wanted to get the boost gauge in before I got it turned up. So HOPEFULLY, I can get the overhead run and the gauge done next weekend before I bring it over there. I asked the guy thats turning it up about the exhaust temp, and he said to check for boost leaks. Thats the furthest I got with him on that subject before he left for the weekend.

BTW, I love your flat top.

Verify pyrometer gauge accuracy first...it could be off a considerable amount and cause you to chase your tail looking for a fix to something that isn't an issue. Since this truck has some age on it I would also give serious consideration to replacing the flexible fuel lines, especially the suction side....this can cause serious performance issues along with causing people to spend money with FASS, Fuel Preporator, etc that only males the air bubbles smaller by pressurization.
