New Kenworth chassis bolted not riveted !?

    I noticed this new KW parked on I-70w in Indiana, comming from Ohio assembly plant, the frame looks simply bolted no rivets or special hex chassis fasteners. Doesn't lose the elasticity ? :eek:

    They can be ordered either way.

    Most are “buck bolted” but you can order them with just regular bolts too like you see there.

    Those drive tires are flawed, look at the inside ones at the shoulder edge of the treads. I see thick cuts all the way down to what is essentially recap country.

    The frames on those pictures are pretty. Just the way I like em.

    I've honestly never seen a KW with huck bolted frames (I have 1 and a couple relatives have had 8 or 9 between them). None of them were huck bolted as far as I can remember.

    The cabs are huck riveted, I haven’t seen a frame huck riveted; I wouldn’t rule it out altogether tho

    We just got a new KW a couple weeks ago. I’ll have to look closer at it?

    I'd think that hand torqueing all those bolts would be more expensive than the machine that snaps the rivet off when at torque.

    While I see loose crossmember bolts all the time. Cant recall ever seeing a loose huck rivet. That to me says which has more clamp load and resists vibration more.

    That being said.......I completely get the universal aspect of bolts. Plus you dont have to get the smoke wrench out to remove them if needed down the road. Pick your poison. Catch 22.

    Definitely better for a "field repair" being able to just zip the bolts on and off. Those huck guns ain't cheap. Even a tiny one to do the cab on my KW is worth more than the labour for a body shop to redo all the cab ones.
