Okay, I guess due to the crowded band, they (FCC?) suggested people to use those channels to spread out more. At least as far as SSB goes.

I heard the GMRS license is now reduced to $35 from $70. Anybody got a line on this? I knew it was going to drop, just didn't know when

1-888-CALL FCC (225-5322), that number will answer your question.

It is planned to go down to $35 when they update their ULS, expect it to happen maybe in October.

Possibly sooner, then maybe not... The Gov. takes its time, unless you owe them money :)

What a rarity that will be.

Everything else is going up: gas, crime, and soon, taxes.

It's like in the 70's when a CB license went from $20 to $4, and then free. I can see GMRS repeating history. I think it was mentioned earlier on here that people are using GMRS radios without a license. I can't blame them, because who would want to spend $70 on a license just to talk around 5 miles or so. They can get a CB radio and talk for free. That last comment or two, wasn't a put down to those who did. Now if all the truckers replaced their CB radio with a GMRS radio, then it might be a different story. I believe that's the main reason CB became so popular, because everyone wanted to listen and talk to the truckers. You know...where the actions at.

I can’t see it happening, the fed just added fees back to amateur radio, many seem to forget that the fcc isn’t a regulatory agency but profit center.

Ya I just discovered that yesterday. I can't say I was surprised. I was disappointed though.
