Have another run to Phoenix and thought about taking a different route from Hagerstown, Md. How is the ride if I take I68 to I79N to I70W. Take I70 to Kansas City to I35S to I40W across to I17S? How is this route compared to I81 to I40 to I17? Just figured a change of scenery would be nice. According to Google it’s roughly same mileage and time. Seems like it’s more open road driving. Any thoughts?

Repeated here, try to keep it in one thread.
Because I-35 south at Emporia, KS is toll road. Stay on 50, it's a nice ride. Except for 70 through Indiana, (unless they've repaired a lot) it's the fastest route, but if you want to avoid tolls, you'll stick to the US-50 to US-54 to Tucumcari, NM. Same time, less miles, and except for the hills on 70 going through 79 to 70 it's a smooth ride.

Indiana will only repair a road when they absolutely must do it.

Personally I hate i70 between kc and Indy mostly 2 lanes each way and way to many trucks. But then again I hate 40 from Knoxville to Little Rock for the same reason.
I would Maybe punt and ask for a different load? Haha

i40 is terrible once you cross the bridge into Arkansas. All the way to Little Rock.

I used to run up to Little Rock across to nashville at 16’ wide and 103’ long. I could feel my hair turning gray from the stress.

Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock, OKC vs Columbus, Indianapolis, St Louis, KC, OKC.

Pick your poison ... Indianapolis/Columbus major construction. KC and St Louis are major metros. Nashville is biggest metro on 40 and you can bypass it.

Unfortunately that’s not an option. It’s grin and bare it time.

What route do you use to bypass Nashville? Always just took I40 through. Easier is always better.

840 ... never any traffic, adds about 20 miles, but at the right time day it can save you more than that. Plus it's just less stressful.
