Not if you drive for companies that have automatic transmissions also.

I had several people in my class who had never driven a stick and they did just fine. 1st rule of shifting - RELAX. its not that hard, and the more nervous you get the less smooth and coordinated your shifts get.

It is easier to learn a truck transmission if you've never driver an manual transmission.. the clutch is the big thing, and with a truck, its different than a car. Just relax and try to see this as a challenge rather than an obstacle. Learn how the transmission works and it will help.

It's not that hard, don't make it more difficult than it is. I personally think it's easier than a car. I wouldnt want to drive a automatic, You want to control that truck! Good luck!

Maybe you can rent a car and practice before starting out on a big truck. Overall though you should be ok with a good instructor and a little practice. Maybe take some time and study up on it before doing the actual physical part of the learning.

    Good luck...
