I have heard so many different stories on how you can get into the trucking business. Obviously there are many ways, but what I would like to know is how I can get into the business. I just finished my college degree in accounting and I recently discovered that a desk job isn't for me. I have worked as an automotive technician (not mechanic) while I have been in school. I worked 3 weeks in an accounting firm and I quit because I couldn't stand sitting down all day and doing paperwork. I have always been the traveling type. I love driving. I just want to know how to get into the business. Do I need a truck of my own to take a CDL course? What CDL course in the chicagoland area is the best? Help?

Nowadays you pretty much have to go through school to get a CDL. You could possibly borrow a truck and take the test but you will play hell trying to find a job. Most insurance companies require you go through an accredited school. So if you don't go through school you are pretty much un-insurable and most companies won't touch you. I know it is a very well desired short cut but it just doesn't pan out the way people think it will. Maybe check out some of the threads on this forum of drivers that tried that route.

So now your options are public schooling or company schooling. Either or pretty much the same just depends on who you want to owe the money to.

Nowadays every one is showing interest in trucking business only. For that we need to have our own truck, but also in large cities there are companies that rent trucks by the hour for you to go and take your driving test in, someone with a CDL will go with you to the testing site and drive the truck there for you so that everything is legal.
    Good luck..
