Hello.. I about trucking school.. I was about to go to CRE.. but thanks to some research and this forum, I can thier deal. In Oregon, they dont have a community college that does CDL in Northern oregon. Either I have to go to Medford, OR (Rogue valley), southern OR or go to Tacoma, WA at Bates Tech or Shorline Comm coll. in Shoreline, WA (N. of Seattle). or a community college in Astoria, OR at the coast. (I guess small towns have great benefits here). I have limited options here. Where I live there are only 3 private schools does the CDL thing which costs between $4200-$4500. Guanteed 180hrs driving, optional additional 1wk training at their descretion w/o penelty/cost. I'm figuring out if I should go to their company trucking program or go to the private school and hope that the trucking co can do tutiton reinburstment. Any options here.

I'm thinking about a career change. I know that it is a tough industry and some people like it while others don't. Any insights would be helpful. Thanks.

from my point of view, going to a real trucking school is better than signing contracts for any training a company will give you. this will bascially lock you into their service for a period of months, if not years to pay off the debt. if you can, try your best to attend a school, and get your oown loan. as far as reimbursements, again, this requires a contract as well. i'd prefer to do it on my own, and owe no one but the finance company for the student loan.

if your particualr situation is dire and you cannot afford a school or cannot get to one in short distance, then maybe a company sponsored school is for you, just be aware of the consequences.

I second what pro1 said. Do it yourself if you can.

Never be afraid to invest in yourself.
Don't be afraid of making a mistake.

There are lots and lots of trucking jobs. One of them may be right for you. And that's about all the advice that can be offered!

Those schools offer a loan program. Fee required to start the program, intrest is 18%. This might be better in the long run. You only oweing to the lender instead of a trucking co. Can do loans through a financial institution. :-? :| Of couse, you will get a certificate saying you graduated from a program and they'll try to help you find a job like most schools do.

it shouldn't. only (i would think) getting an increase in your current credit cards, or any future loans.

that interst rate is quite high. see if you can negotiate a lower rate, maybe some sort of "down payment" can help you accomplish this.

and its just usually a "certificate of completion" not a real diploma, but its what the trucking companies accept. and most schools do have a placement assistance office. some schools have "lifetime" assistance, some have a time limit. either way, once you get your experience, a job shouldn't be too hard to find.

18% is the loan if I decided to finance the loan through their school (Trucking). I'll say a last resort if you don't have other ways to do this. I might get a better loan if I can go to a financial institution and do this. *OR* charge it on credit cards. (They take them). Apr is variable.

--shown on a piece of paper shown that you have completed the course. Now it is up to you to choose the right trucking company. Any good ones?

Sorry, in my area there are 3 instead of 2 private trucking schools. I'm finding the right one. Thanks.
