Hello everyone! I am fairly new to the forums and definitely new to trucking. I will be attending a CDL course at my local community college here pretty soon and I've been doing some research on some companies and TMC keeps popping up at the top on my list. I do find that they have the VA apprenticeship program very awesome, although I know Schneider does as well. I do have some questions for some people that work at TMC currently if you all could fill me in a bit.

How is the pay on average? I know percentage is pretty much the preferred way of being paid from what I read so far. Am I realistically looking at $600-$900 a week on average after orientation, training, and getting my own truck or is that just recruiter speak?

On APUs and idling, I noticed that only 100 trucks are getting some APUs. How hard are they on you when idling as far as calculating your MPG and how much does that affect your percentage pay? Are you able to buy your own APU and if so will they let you install it?

As far as the trucks, are they fairly new? Are the Peterbuilts comfortable and do they come with refrigerators, microwaves, and enough room for a TV? Does TMC even allow you to have any of that stuff if you want to buy it? Which brings me to my next question, do any of you use laptops in the truck and if so, how do you power it and do you do any gaming? I am familiar with internet tethering and wifi, but I just need to figure out how to power my big 17.3 inch beast of a laptop. Haha. Also final question on the trucks, how is the sound quality of the radios? (CB included)

Well I think that's all I have for now. Just to let you know I'm in the South East (AL) if you were wondering. I know that's a lot of questions but anyone with some answers is very appreciated. Just let me know if I missed something. Forgive my ignorance on the subject, this is all very new to me and I am excited to get on the road.

I have only had my own truck about a month, but I'll hit a couple questions. As far as the pay I do percentage and you will have no problem earning that much unless you dont do your job. You won't get an APU and no, I don't think you can have one installed, but I'm not sure. The trucks are older but very well maintaned. Plenty of room for me. They don't come with anything in them and you can't have an inverter installed for a while so look into things that plug into the 12v. I plug my laptop into the 12v and it runs fine.

Let me help answer also.. no on the apu's. My opinion, you dont need one. The stereo is killer. Cb is a Cobra 29. You cannot modify the truck at all!! Dont try.,you will get caught. Plus, these trucks are spec'd out for owner operators, which means they are fully loaded. Leathee and walnut interior. My truck has some age, and miles, but it looks and runs like new. There is a shelf in the bunk area special made for tv. It even has the antenna cable hook up. I originally thought I would need a big power inverter. You dont. Just get the 12v items. Remember though, TMC is alot more than a pretty truck. Good luck to you.

Yes you can. I bought a Coleman electric cooler at Walmart for $80ish. Thats $40 cheaper for the same one at the truck stop. It works great!! It fits perfectly in one of the closets. Keep in mind you have 2.
