If all you guys that crowd into the truckstops between 3-4 p.m. why aren't you gone or getting ready to leave by 2 a.m. when us night drivers need a spot. Seems like the place is still full until 6-7 a.m.

Yeah no ####!!! I hate when I pull in in the early a.m. and cant even find a "build-a-spot" next to a curb... If I didnt run nights id have to shut down at least 1 hr earlier each day. The last 3 nights I ran my 11 hrs of driving out to within 10 mins of 11 hrs each night.

If I'm sitting more than 10 hours in one spot, it's not because I want to. It's because I have to. Either no hours to run or arrived early and waiting on an appointment.

I can't speak for the others.

If I start at 0600 and drive a total of 10.5 hours or so, with a half hour break, I'll be stopping at 1700. My body does not work like a machine that allows me to shut down and get started again at 0300, or 0000 the next day, or 2100 the next day. I keep a schedule for myself and will break it if need be, but my health and happiness take priority to a little extra income.

I mean it just depends on how loads are dispatched. If they have a couple of days to run a load, why wake up early if it isn't necessary? A better question would be why so many drivers pack up Love's, PFH, TA/Petro so quickly

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

That's an easy question to answer ... they're wanting to get parked without having to park stupid .... They're trying to beat you there.

Thats where MANY companies allow thier drivers to fuel. Also I think most steering wheel holders think that parking is more likely there than at smaller truck stops.

    Oldironfan and bryan21384 Thank this.

I think a lot of those steering wheel holders but the pocket truck stop book and only go to the truck stops that have an "L" for parking. They're too scared to go to smaller stops. You do make appointment about the companies getting fuel at select locations.

If you just use the resources at your disposal you can be fairly certain you'll get a spot. Just open up Trucker Path and use the history tool for the stop you're traveling to. It shows you when it fills up, or if it does each day of the week for as far back as you want to check. It comes in very handy and has kept me from parking on shoulders and on-ramps.

If you need a spot by 2 a.m., I'd say your more of an afternoon driver. Now, if you need a spot at 7 a.m., then I'd call u a night driver.:biggrin_1square11:
