We drive a 05 volvo. We just had our engine rebuilt from top to bottom. Had a cracked head and burnt rings. We are driving today on our first load and it's releasing black smoke. Is this off of the exhaust where our rings were burnt and burning oil?
No dissing please.

Black smoke, too much fuel not enough air.
Perhaps they didn't do the valve set correctly if your lucky. Or bad injectors?
Or the turbo isn't working properly. -
black smoke usually indicates a fuel mixture that is too rich, either too much fuel or not enough air. blue smoke will indicate motor oil in the combustion, white smoke shows coolant in the combustion.
give the motor a good work-out. dont baby it, but dont beat it. stop at lunch time, shut the motor off for 20 min or so check all your fluids, top them off if needed, do this for the next couple 3-5 days and if all fluids are good and it still smokes take it back to the shop. -
There is nothing to diss.
In the olden days black smoke was part of the natural breathing desiel engines until they warmed up and ran at a good temperature at which point you had brown smoke or hardly any depending on outside temp. When the engine was working or pushed hard it will smoke. But when they get into the powerband, that smoke goes away because they can breathe that good air.
The black KW in the third race took off in a really high gear because he had the beef to do it. The green opponet pulled out to whatever safety concern. But that smoke he made went away as soon his engine on the black got into his power band and then some.
The second race both trucks displayed oily smoke, inadequate or badly driven engines. If it was really bad that usually meant the intercooler had a leak into the turbo and it was not integrety of the flow of air in that system.
The first race blew that smoke clear out once they got into power band.
If you smoke constantly or really inky bad smoke that covered half a mile behind you splatting your own trailer then you have to have the shop review the engine again. It's not running right for a modern engine. You would be throwing away fuel.Lepton1, Intothesunset and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -
At your first opportunity, open the hood and give everything in the intake track a good once over, look for loose clamps on the tubes and hoses.

Sucked a plastic bag into the air cleaner?
Tombstone69, mhyn and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Call to the boss.. Uh boss... she's got a bag in her.
WOT!? *&^% can you move it at all? Err...
That's where you learn those air intake cans back in those days. Usually a screen on it.QuietStorm and 201 Thank this. -
Lepton1 Thanks this.

Where is black smoke stored that it can just randomly be released.
QuietStorm Thanks this.
