I don't think this is legal but my dispatcher and his boss say OK during daylight hours - driving with inoperable Headlights and front signals. What is the consensus here?
Due to a fault in the body control module the front lights don't work sometimes. I dealt with it for a couple days then started to push back when they magically started working again. Now they stay on 24X7 with tape across the switch so I don't turn em off.
I'm considering stopping at a weigh station for their opinion. Calling highway patrol was useless. They just said we dispatch, can't advise.
No headlights or front signals, legal daytime?

Depends on the state. Got a level one in North Carolina, officer told me I was out of service because the right headlight was out. This was on a sunny day. The truck had daytime running lights so guess it went out somewhere along the way. I keep spares but he still wrote it up.

Yah, I wouldn’t be stopping at any weight station for an opinion , lol.
Seriously, all your lights need to be working at all times. Heck they even check backup lights on my tractor…but officer, I’m not going to backup today.
Tell your dispatcher to stick to dispatching and get your truck fixed.hope not dumb twucker, Sons Hero, mjd4277 and 6 others Thank this. -
Headlights on when raining is one reason that they need to be operational.
I’d deliver my load if you got one on and then put my truck oos. Or don’t deliver and put it oos. Personally I’m inclined to help the company out a little bit.. -
no
hope not dumb twucker, Lonesome, Stringb8n and 2 others Thank this. -
Lights are fairly easy to fix. If the company is dragging their feet on it, what is going to happen when u break a leaf spring or something major?
Everything is legal until you get caught. If you get inspected you will be placed out of service for required lights not working. As a driver you need to look after yourself and your license . A company like that will be the first to throw you under the bus when something bad happenshope not dumb twucker, mjd4277, snowlauncher and 4 others Thank this. -
Stopping at a weigh station is a bad idea. You'll kill off your day because you will get placed OOS. You're better off driving to a shop, and parking there and refusing to drive til they get it fixed. Also check your fuses.
hope not dumb twucker, mjd4277 and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
Not a quick fix. Both myself and Loves looked at all fuses. Diagnostics says bad Body Control module. Multiple dealers say that is an expensive part needing to be ordered then programmed.
Small shops say the same.
Issue is intermittent so they lights stay on 24x7 -
And I'm curious why this is in the bad trucking company section.
Would you like to off on your current employer?hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
In my opinion it’s legal as far as it takes to a repair shop
hope not dumb twucker and Concorde Thank this.
