On cnbc they were just talking about Google's self driving car and how great it is and that they are supposedly going to start selling self driving cars soon. The person on there also mentioned that trucks could be self-driving driven by computers too. So why should anybody want to train to be a truck driver if all truck drivers are going to be out of a job in 10 years or less when self driving trucks become standard?

Cannot wait to see the computer out strapping a load, shutting and securing a van or setting out triangles when broke down.

While the technology is currently available and actually being tested, what is missing is the infrastructure required to deploy this technology on any sort of large scale. It may happen some day, but certainly not in ten years, prolly not in any of our lifetimes. See, infrastructure costs money, and we are way short on Dollars (16 Trillion at last count). We are already decades behind in meeting current transportation demands. Truck driving jobs will be available for a long, long time.

LOL... In a closed course perhaps, but out on the road? Not in our lifetime... I think we are often treated as less than human now, but that is another thread...

You left out the part where it'll be law that all self driving automated vehicles will still have to have a licensed driver behind the wheel "just in case." So I'll still have a job, it'll just be alot easier...tell me again why I should fear automation???
