that may work for one or two trucks, but when this becomes widespread, look out for the yellow height bars, more and more
No place to park and out of hours

I can't stand e logs especially since I have been running the northeast (for the last few weeks) unfortunately it does require you to shut down early. A perfect example was tonight.
I had planned my trip from Kentucky to upstate NY well (or so I thought) I had 2 or 3 places picked out to shut down at the end of my shift that would let me drive until I had 30 minutes left. I was very excited until I got about 100 miles from a larger (unfamiliar to me) city with about 2.5 hrs left on the clock. That is when it hit me. I did not factor in rush hour. My thorough trip planning would of put me smack dab in the middle of this city at about 530. That extra 30 min didn't seem like enough of a cushion anymore. So I chose to shut down with about 1.5 hrs left on my clock. I would of loved to use up the hour and get some more miles but unfortunately I knew it was a possibility that I would of eaten up that extra 30 min in traffic. I still have alot to learn (being a newbie) but not pushing yourself to hard combined with proper trip planning (and factoring in rush hour LOL) has helped me alot. I would love to push my hours to the last few minutes to maximize daily mileage but unfortunately that is not the world I live in.
1 huge benifet of shutting down a little earlier the truck stop was half full. It was great. Plenty of room no wondering "am I going to have to be creative and make a spot" this would normally allow me to get unloaded a little earlier but the shipper was not willing to change my appt time. Looks like I get to take a nice long shower and not rush in the a.m
My dad was a trucker in the 70 ' s and I hear stories all the time of multiple log books and trips across the country with no rest. I guess those days are just about behind us LOL -
Run hard and always fuel at TA/Petro. Once you have fueled enough to be a platinum member the reserved spots are free! Then just order up your valet-esgue spot and roll to the limit of your hours that the nearest TA/Petro provides knowing you have a reserved spot.
