Algae in the tank might be one issue in that story but I think there is something else. Imo, if you have a fuel restriction due to filter issues, you should have decent power with new filters.
Did you ever investigate the contains in your secondary filter?
I hope your pressure test reveals something tomorrow. Good luck.
No power. Poor fuel economy.

I can tell you in the morning the truck runs smooth and has plenty of power. As the day goes on the power starts fading off until I park it and let it idle for 30 minutes then the power comes back.

Got 3 today from O'Reilly , hope works. Above, my water separator filter dirty after 1500 miles, new reman motor , 4000 miles instaled 2 weeks ago. I had this problem before I replaced motor, I thought was caused by cracks in head around injectors contaminating the returning fuel. Today, I talked to a guy, owner of new Volvo 860 , 20k miles on it, he opened the hood, and the water separator filter was like mine, dirty muddy uddy.
Hope this help.Last edited: Sep 13, 2018

Back on track?
Could you solve your problem?KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Some friends of mine have been dealing for few months with a problem like this ,hard to diagnose , low power on D13. And finally few days ago , after many shops ,a tech in Calgary found somethings wrong with engine brake. They said "VEB cap valve", and engine brake out of adjustments, the rockers were removed, not sure how this works, just pointing to some possible fix for hidden low power issues.

....The most common loss in MPG and power in a Volvo Engine...
Nothing to do with straight TQ whatsoever.
You could have better rear ratio for the D13 Tq curve though. A 3.42 is better suited for a much older motor with peak tq at higher rpm..... 3.08s would dramatically increase your fuel mileage with your year D13/500 but the cups need checked first.
Volvo injection pressures up to 35,000 psi..... Contamination wreaks havoc on the injectors in these trucks.
The 7um davco filter keeps the big crap from getting to the spin on filter with is actually pretty crappy efficiency at 5uM.
I have actually changed to the Fleetguard 2uM plus size filter in my Davco.... The factory Volvo spin on fuel filter should never get dirty now.Last edited: Oct 5, 2018

This is a very bad recommendation I'll tell you why..
The engine spin on is a 5uM filter.
If you catch the clouding fuel in the davco first, it's far easier to change than the spin on. 5 minutes and you're running without even getting dirty.
Second issue, related to the first is what passed the Davco.. Goes to the engine filter and possibly to the engine. You don't want contamination going to the injection system in a Volvo, they're already at a disadvantage running 35,000 psi and particular matter causes big damage, shorter lifespan.
**The BEST solution, get the coolant heat provision for your Davco and run finer filtration ....daf105paccar Thanks this. -
So I am still working this problem. I am gonna recap what I have done thus far. Turbo replaced in March, injectors and cups replaced in July. Clutch replaced in July. Opened trans and power divider up. Replaced egr temp sensor and egr diff pressure sensor. Fuel economy right now is 6.2mpg. Fuel economy started sliding after this turbo got put on. Volvo in Rochester says there is nothing wrong with it. I have watched on multiple occasions my boost gauge bounce while riding the engine brakes down a hill. Today on I81 through the Poconos in PA that sum mofo was bouncing 5-10psi.

Rochester is starting to tick me off. The last set of injectors introduced a flutter in my engine during hard pulls. I complained about it from the very first week they were installed. They wouldnt fracking pull them and check them. I complained and complained until my warranty ran out and then they magically say oh your flutter is a known issue with some injectors and they charged me for a 6 pack. I so livid still about it that I wanna ram this truck through their building.

Oh and I stuck my finger inside the turbo on the clean air side. Rubbed the impellers my finger was covered in soot.
