    I'm looking to buy a $15,000 daycab and work for two local companies.

    I'd need to be independent to run for them.

    How far can I get / should I go in the process before I have to buy the truck?

    There's really no point in applying for authority until you have insurance to post to the FMCSA. At least have your deal made on the truck before you start the process.
