this is exactly what happened to me in april. i wanted 4 days off so they told me to submit a leave of absence and turn in my truck. 4 days. 4 weeks out. i then spent the next three weeks waiting for another truck. i wanted 4 days. i got three weeks. i now lease. i still get home a week late but i keep my truck now.

they have plenty of trucks they just dont want to give them out. i was just down in phoenix and greer and they have all kinds of brand new company trucks. got my self a 2012 cascadia. Greer has at least 20 cascadias with no drivers and phoenix had about 10 left. However i hear larado has a bunch of them. point is they have trucks but they are hording the new ones

My company does the same thing but, the way I see it, there's a reason for it. When a carrier buys a tractor for a certain amount of money, they've got it worked out (more or less) as far as how many miles that unit has to run before they've gotten their moneys' worth according the the accountant. If the company decided to replace a truck with a new unit before they've hit that magic number with the old one, they've basically lost money on that investment.

If Swift replaced all those units with the new Cascadias before those older trucks have "earned their keep", then someone is going to have some explaining to do at the next shareholders' meeting concerning the hit to their bottom line.

So according to your reasonings, It is perfectly OK to have driver's sitting around waiting for a truck for 2, 3, or 4 weeks instead of putting them in a truck that is new & earning revenue?

After the second day of no truck, file for unemployment.

Waiting for a truck with no pay is not something that should ever be done.

I was answering his question as to why the company was "hoarding" new trucks. The answer has nothing to do with why they wouldn't give the driver an available truck, new or old. If all their used units are occupied, and they have an available driver still on the payroll without a ride, then they should give her one, new or old.

    Hiya, Ambivalence!

You don't know anything. The company does not own lease trucks. They are leased and then sub-leased. Kind of like renting an apartment and then renting out one of the rooms.

I'm on my way to Manteno to get a truck, a L/O is giving me a ride, then I'll have to get a load back to New Boston to get my stuff out of the storage trailer.
