Let them find another way. The whole “Driver Shortage” was so they could flood our industry with cheap labor. I’m over it. Send them home or have Chinatown give them three pages worth of posts for farms that are hiring.

Not all cultures put the same value on life.
Not all cultures believe, in Thomas Jefferson's "All men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"
We all joke about America's lawsuit happy society, yet some cultures have little or no repercussions for unsafe behavior.
Not all cultures have the same respect for laws or authority.
Not all cultures have the same respect for personal responsibility,
Not all cultures have the same respect for fairness and honesty.
Before the guidance changed in 2018, most, not all, truck drivers -
Grew up in America's culture of responsibility.
Grew up with a rule of law.
Grew up with the same value on life
Grew up speaking the language.
When to school for some 12 years (give or take) learning reading and American culture.
Grew up in americas culture of driving.
Went to driver's education class provided by an American education system.
Spent years driving on American roads before hopping in a truck.
Watched trucks driving for years on American roads....
The point being, there is no Truck Driver Education Course of any length, that can make up for all these very real safety distinctions. While a six week truck driving course might be of some value to an American born and raised driver, it is of nothing but detriment to a person with a culture with differing values and experiences.Last edited: Apr 21, 2026

XAVIER BECERRA VOWS TO PROTECT TRUCKERS WHO DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH AS CALIFORNIA'S NEXT GOVERNOR
Xavier Becerra just told California voters exactly what he plans to do as governor.
When asked whether the CHP should administer English proficiency tests to truck drivers and if he would push back against the Trump administration’s policy, Becerra replied:
“I definitely pushed back on a reckless policy and make sure that officer understands he cannot discriminate with any driver without having basis to do so.”
He added: “I understood a little bit of what that individual was trying to say. I couldn’t see the signs, but it certainly sounded like he was trying to describe what particular sign was trying to represent and so we have to be very careful not profiling consumers in California drivers.”
Becerra is openly promising to shield non-English-speaking truck drivers — many of them illegal immigrants — from basic safety requirements like reading road signs. In his view, requiring English proficiency is “reckless” discrimination and “profiling.”
California families share the roads with 80,000-pound big rigs every day. This is what Democrat governance looks like: prioritizing illegal aliens over public safety.
This is where he is entirely wrong. It’s not a policy of any certain administration. No, foreign nationals don't have the RIGHT to enter or reside in or work in the US at all. Any non US citizen who legally enters or resides in or works in the US has been granted a privilege to do so, one that can be revoked by their hosts at any time. They're guests. Just as Americans are in foreign countries. I don't have the RIGHT to live or work anywhere that I don't hold citizenship.
