I think they've been removed because of public sentiment, not because they're statistically shown to be unsafe. People feel that traffic circles are dangerous, so they actually pay attention and drive cautiously for a change. Which ends up making them more safe. I mourn the Netcong circle, which was replaced about a decade ago by a signalized intersection with odd angles, significant grade changes, and far more challenges than the average NJ motorist seems able to handle.

It was thought that the French first invented roundabouts however it was the British that first really used them to improve traffic back in 1966 however they do work wonders for cars, but really are not suited for large vehicles like Tractor trailers the reason being once you stop which you have to do at a roundabout if you have to give way it is very hard to take off again I know in some cases where it was so bad for trucks with roundabouts that they've actually had to remove the roundabout and re-install traffic lights.

Doesn’t look like your cones have been run over as much as mine. Each truck has eight on them but if you put out six two are flat with tire marks on them in the morning, or missing altogether.

I don't mind roundabouts, at least in low traffic areas. They are in general safer, getting hit at 15mph is more survivable than getting tboned at 55. Though over a certain traffic density, lights are more efficient at maintaining the flow of traffic.

I never have liked them in a truck. If you get there at the right time it goes ok otherwise if you have to stop it’s nearly impossible to get in without being a dick. I also feel like most of them are poorly marked and definitely on the small side for trucks. In my car there ok once you know where to get off. I am still not convinced that I like them more than conventional American traffic controls though.

I passed on a bid run this spring because the terminal has three roundabouts between the highway and the terminal. No thank ya.

I hit 7 roundabouts before I get to my first stop most days.

I try to be in the left lane with roundabouts, whenever possible.
