I am attending a cdl school that I paid for out of my pocket. I've been there going on 5 wks. I haven't received any training at all. I've watched all the sponsored students get full attention. I've spoken to mgmt but the problem continues. I am considering leaving, any advice?

Which school? How long is the course? Can you get your money back?

I find it incredibly hard to believe you.
You say 5 weeks and you ain't getting training? Your cash speaks more so than you think. If after one week you weren't getting any training, then you should have left, demanding your money back, complete with a lawyer's stern letter of intent to sue.
Now you say that you "have watched" the other students, well part of teaching is YOU watching AND doing!
Did you or do you expect to be held by the hands and get one on one training? If the class size is more than say 10 students, how many instructors are there for just that size a class?
When anyone attends a school usually you have one week for a full refund. After that, as time goes on and if you want out, that amount you get back diminishes quite a bit.
I think you're screwed as to getting any money back. YOU LET it go far too long as I see it. -

I too am not understanding you not getting trained at a CDL school... all CDL schools do is teach you what you need to know to pass the test and get your CDL.... the general knowledge test and endorsement test you can learn by readi g the manual and taking the free online practice test... I had already read and reread the manual and was passi g the free online tests with ease before the the first day of CDL school...
So.. all I had to learn and needed from the school was actually being in the seat and getting to drive around a bit to larn to shift.. and how to back... and as stated the majority of that was watching the other students being taught and applying what the instructor told them...
After that all I needed from the school was the truck to take the test in...
Now... i do know.. that student who did t pass the written tests couldn't move onto to the physical driving of the truck till they did.. had a couple students in my class who did t speak english well take much longer to pass the written tests so they were not able to take their turn in the truck till they did...
So... maybe we need a little more information on what is going on in order to be of more help to you..
Have you got your CDL permit
Have you taken the written tests yet
Did you pass the written tests..
If not are you utilizing the free online practice test like the one on this site
Have they put you in the driver seat yet and for how long.. -
Is this a riddle? OK, I'll take a stab at solving it. You are the instructor. Am I right?
passport220 Thanks this. -
Hope you have not paid any money yet,,
training should start with a day or two of class training, rules and regs and then basics about trucks and how todo a pretrip inspection, then hands on pretrip inspections and then some basic driving on a lot with the tractor only to get used to being in a truck,,starting and stopping and you hope some training and shifting a multi geared transmission,,if the school is training only on trucks with an auto shift transmission FIND AN OTHER SCHOOL. -
Leave them and what money you already paid them forget about and find company sponsored school. You can't afford to go thru this mess again.I wouldn't worry about themcoming after you for money owed because they haven't trained you.Thats what I would do anyway.

Do they have a facebook page?

They assured me that the teacher ratio was 3 students to one trainer. The first week was classroom work and I didn't pay no mind to what was happening outside because everyone was focused on trying to pass the general knowledge test. We were pushed back a week due to bad weather. There's only 2 instructors on the yard and the school gets 20 plus students a week, my class was 20 students. I was assured by mgmt that I would have my cdl in 4 wks and I did explain that I understood things were slow due to the amount students. All I'm asking for is time in the truck to learn what I need to learn without someone spending crazy he's in the truck and no one getting their drive time. Now I'm not the only one who is experiencing this there are three others who have paid out of their pockets. My mistake was I should have investigated more before making a final decision. Thank you for your input.
