Has anyone received a letter of cancellation since the launch of Motus?

I switched insurance agents and companies effective 8-16-26. I checked my mail and had this notice in the mail. So, I contact agent and we both look on Motus and everything seems up to par...... It shows that my former insurance has a cancellation date of 9-21-26. Not sure why it has that date, as it should have been 8-16-26 when the policy expired.

It also shows my new insurance information with the policy effective date of 8-16-26.

Ive been on hold with FMCSA this morning so ill probably get some good answers here before they pick the phone up..... :)

Ours renewed in June, Motus shoes everything is fine but the old system would show a cancelation and a new policy. Got a letter but just threw it away.

Youtube, Facebook and the like are filled with stories of folks with active insurance, no insurance change and involuntary revocations after Motus.

Yeah, The old insurance company submitted a notice of cancellation. I was told that usually if an insurance company sees the policy has been replaced they wont submit that notice. Everyone says everything is good. Ive switched companies before but, have never seen that notice.

nikmirbre, the letter itself is usually the old carrier closing out their filing, which is normal when you switch. What matters is not the cancellation date on the old policy, it is whether the new filing shows an effective date with no gap in between. If the old one says 9-21 and the new one says 8-16, you are covered, the dates just overlap and the paperwork looks ugly.

Two things worth doing today anyway. Have your new agent send you the actual filing confirmation with the effective date on it, and save a PDF of your own record showing active insurance right now. Not because FMCSA needs it, but because that is what you will be emailing to brokers.

That is where this actually hurts. The broker vetting systems pull that file every day, and if it blinks for even a day their screen puts a flag on you. Nobody at the brokerage reads the story behind the flag, they just move to the next truck. We had a lapse flag once that was pure paperwork on the insurer's side and it cost us a week of load refusals, which nobody ever pays you back for. Having the filing confirmation in hand meant we could answer in one email instead of arguing.

My cousin had his authority canceled two weeks ago. Said it was something to do with insurance but they got it fixed this week. Guess a few companies have had it canceled the same way. Motus must be messing up and not talking to certain companies I think. He had a smaller insurance company that he went through.

Now ive been trolling the internet and looking at YouTube, etc. I dont have Facebook to look at. Lots of stories and videos on this subject. Ive seen where over 1100 carriers have had their authority revoked due to this "glitch".

I had a high/wide and heavy load that was supposed to pick up on the 21st( the day my authority is supposed to be cancelled). I put that load on the back burner. Id hate to be out on the road with a load and no authority. Ive also received 3(yes 3) of the same notices from FMCSA since I started this thread.

Im afraid this isn't looking good. Yes on Friday after being on hold forever( with think it was 45minutes) I did speak with someone at MOTUS. They said all was shown good.

My thing is, if you have authority cancelled, and try to re-instate it, isn't that with brokers and insurance companies the same as starting over?

I sure hope not because they really screw you if you actually do revoke. I had to wait a year on several decent brokerages after I 'suspended' my authority one time. Never again. There is no voluntary suspension of authority no matter what people tell you. Anyway, that was a different circumstance.

Surely any decent broker will know of this problem and be able to override it for you. Let us know what happens.

You know what would make this simpler? A way to view history beyond current status. That way a broker can see "oh look, a 3 day gap when MOTUS came out..... that's probably the government's fault"

Can see that and if nothing else has changed we don't worry about it.
