BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Two different crashes happened Thursday afternoon on I-65 around 1:30 p.m.
In the first accident, multiple semi-trailers crashed in Boone County, injuring two people.
Boone County officials said the semi-trailers crashed at mile marker 149. The crash has shut down NB I-65 in this area.
The closure is between Exit 146 and 158, about 13 miles north of Lebanon.
There was a second accident down the road near mm 142 that also resulted in injuries. A pickup truck was apparently tailgating a car behind a semi. The driver, 77-year-old Richard Wingard of Flora, didn't observe traffic was stopped due to the semi accident, failed to slow his truck and slammed into the rear of an SUV.
Wingard's truck then continued northbound crashing into yet another vehicle.
Wingard suffered head, hand and leg injuries and was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis.
Traffic is being rerouted to 52 northbound from the Lebanon exit.
Police said the accidents may not be cleared for another 6 hours between mm 146 and 160.
