Virtually all of us let ourselves become accustomed to out-driving our sight lines, e.g., ~blinded by oncoming headlights, in curves where our velocity exceeds our ability to recognize a hazard and get stopped. Experience teaches us it's OK, because in the very vast majority of cases, nothing happens.
Your brain and experience will kill ya if you listen to them indiscriminately. The brain takes monumental shortcuts to complete the picture visual perception provides mostly as a blur.
