Might be a good time to buy a truck if you have the cash to scoop one up from a seller looking to get out. The best opportunities are often in the bad times

Haliburton in Odessa laid off 700 employees as of Thursday last week.

Would I bet the farm on it, no. Would the person who informed me of this information have any reason to lie, no. I'd say I'm mostly sure, the individual knows people there, and as most know, the oil field really isn't that big of a place. Why?

Just seems like a lot. I could see 700 in TX, but that many out of one area seems too much.

Now that you mention it, I can see your point. I don't know very much about frac yards or how many are typically employed at a medium/large yard like in Odessa. I will say though, I drove by this afternoon and parking lot did look rather thin, but the overall highway traffic has thinned out quite a bit too. Still no doubt that lots are losing their jobs, I was there in 08', really no fun. I feel for those in that unemployed position.

I've made it through one round of lay offs at my work and have watched at least five of our yards get shut down in the last two weeks. It's getting bad for Halliburton and Baker and it will only get worse until the merger is done. I don't think I'm going to stick around to find out.

It probably is 700 in Odessa. The Halliburton yard in Odessa is as big As some small cities.if you have never seen it it is enormous

Most of the halliburton crew we have a contract with got laid off. They merged the remnants of some other crews to make the current crew. Sad to see so many of the guys I had been working with all year just gone. Hope they get back on their feet quickly...
