I'm with you on the paving! It seems like it is all about communicating with the laydown operator. It is important to be alert for his signals. We used end dumps for the approaches and aprons only. It only takes a little brake pressure to hold yourself against the machine-I always tended to use too much as I didn't want to roll away and spill ahead of the machine-not into shovel work! It does require more concentration than just laying out a windrow and leaving, but with your experience driving the truck is muscle-memory, focus on box up, box down, slight brake pressure and RELAX-you'll do fine! Good Luck!
