Maybe figuring out why all your drivers leave ?

i no longer work in the trucking industry but the company I work for , has employees leaving frequently , not because they get treated bad but because other companies are offering more money.

    It was a joke.

As for why our drivers are leaving? Mostly medical or age (retiring). One single mom has a turd of a high schooler who has been skipping school so she has to go home for a local gig (doesn't want to leave, but has responsibilities to handle). 2 of the last 3 that left for greener pastures have already returned when they found out most recruiter's claims are bovine excrement.

I speak to all the drivers periodically when they come through the terminal to find out what they like, what they dislike, and what they would change. The most common complaint is always speed limiters (duh). There is really no rhyme or reason for the rest of the complaints, just whatever the flavor of the week happens to be. The only other request that had merit lately involved the lack of double-bunk trucks for those who wish to utilize the rider policy. They asked, we listened, and the next batch of new trucks will be all double-bunks.

Most companies lose drivers because they just don't listen or just don't care.

Insurance companies base a lot of their decision on how the hiring company formulates the driver's work history. I've learned that process is quite flexible at times with some insurers. An employer can fudge the work history in how they present a driver's record and make disjointed experience seem like consecutive experience if there is a 2-year minimum for insurability.

But if the employers don't like an application or potential hire, then they won't move a finger and simply deny the app based on "lack of consecutive experience".

I'm sure there are insurers who do their own checks and wouldn't insure someone who didn't meet the experience requirements for the policy/rate the employer enjoys.

Sounds like you landed on your feet in Phoenix, so good on you. There is such a thing as burning too many bridges though. Hopefully you've informed this new company of your intentions and have made the "part-time" or "seasonal" nature of your employment very clear.

If there was a driver shortage you'd be employed without question. You'd find parking at 7pm. Its a total myth.

Living the dream man! I've often wondered how to make this happen for myself. I'd figure I can work March to October/November and take off!
