<p>[QUOTE=&quot;starmac, post: 8430131, member: 249333&quot;]Are there any old star fans here.</p><p><br /></p><p>I traded for an old star with the intent to build a log truck out of it.</p><p>It is an 81 year model daycab, but I can not even tell you what model number it is.</p><p>I have driven several later model big cab stars, and while they are nice enough trucks, they just never impressed me, the build quality on this old rig (first one I ever gave a second look at) is highly impressive.</p><p>It is 38 years old and the doors open and shut as good as any car or pickup I have ever sit in, I could not belive it.</p><p>The double frame is clean, straight and NO rust between the frames, the cab itself is super straight, with zero rust and not even any dings at all that I have found.</p><p>Specs are big cam 1 400, 15 over and SS rears, not sure what ratio yet, but 529&#039;s were the most common around here for that era and up till mid 80&#039;s or early 90&#039;s. it originally had a set of boxes, but will stick with the 15, for now anyway.</p><p>It is on hendrickson beams, which sucks, but not bad for a log truck.</p><p>Fuel tanks are under cab with plenty of clearance, air tanks are mounted high all great for a log truck.</p><p>The hood is great, with no cracks.</p><p>The diamond pleat upholstery including headliner is in mint condition.</p><p>wheel base is app 256, but has been moved up 22 inches to mount a box on and the frame is still all there, so I will probably stretch it back to original.</p><p>It does have power steering, it had factory air, but most components gone and I will not mess with it.</p><p>It has been parked for a number of years, but runs good.</p><p><br /></p><p>Those are the good points All in all it is a nice base for a mild working restoration and I like old trucks better for my use in the woods.</p><p>from reading through this forum it seems like at least some parts will not be available, unlike my old A models, so it may be at least a little problemetic finding parts needed.</p><p><br /></p><p>Now that is the good points, here is the bad.</p><p>For some reason the dash has been dismantled to a huge extent, and lots of parts are missing, I will try and find a parts truck to remedy this. I</p><p>Does anyone know what years the dash was the same as an 81??</p><p>The grill itself is missing, I can fabricate something if I have to, but hopefully will find one on a parts truck.</p><p>Anybody know off the top of their head what model number an 81 western day cab would be?</p><p>anybody know what years parts truck I should be looking for, I know the cab height was raised sometime prior to this, not sure if the dash itself changed, and it is the main thing I need.</p><p>This will be somewhat of a long term project, but a col old school working truck once I get her back together.
