Maybe the debate should be "old truck vs new glider".

Now we are hearing the real stories about some of that "new" iron.....yep that sounds more realistic.

Agreed, however this is not 2009. We're on 2014 which makes it 5 years later. By these statements am I being told there will never be another 6NZ, N14, S60 quality equipment?

We all "know" 2008-2010 were the -all manufacturers- experimental engines and each and everyone failed, heck I got a ##### Cat C15 '08 acert..
Things have changed and progressed, emissions have gotten finer and better on trucks. If gliders be the way to go companies would buy them and put them together in their own shops gentlemen, they run Super singles, auto trannies, air disc brakes, "APUs"

    Talk about 2012 and up.

The none DEF - DPF only trucks ('08-'10) were businesses death dealers, unless you were/are strong you could only make it with one of those

A 2600 to 3000 truck payment is asking to go bankrupt that's insane. If you don't have equity or enough down to have 1800 or less payment your just living on a prayer and asking for trouble. That's just my 2 cents.

Real world new 2015 kw t660.. 149k.. 10k down $2425.00 a month, 72 months at 8.25% through GE Capital. I had $1900.00 truck note plus 25k in repairs... If your business plan can't handle possible income swings of 30k in any given year... Then you are the one asking for trouble... You might be running to cheap. Good luck

And is $5-6k realistic figures per week? No its not Who's paying an owner-operator 5-6k per week? Unless your in hauling Chemical/fuels-hauling pharmaceuticals,or oD loads consistently...it will be hard to achieve $5-6 per week..(That's 250k-330k per year) Not realistic..

PLUS you have factors of life too..(Vacation weeks,Weddings-bereavement leaves, repairs and maintenance etc,Which knocksd off from 52 weeks per year down to 45-48 if your lucky.

Now these are real generalizations that I personally experience.....

Can you succeed and PROFIT with a new truck? Sure..But be a lil more realistic with your earnings.....try around $2500-$4000 per week on general freight Gross

i'll tell ya 1 thing ..Your not going to make $300,000 per year without having complete Knowledge of this industry in all sectors...So,If you plan on using a 'loadboard' you might as well buy a $4500.00 Beater and put in parts as needed.

Good luck with that... I had a newer truck... Payments plus 25k in repairs plus down time... It's not the deal you think it is... You will pay more than you think.

If you gross less than $3500 in a week then you'd be better off doing a fleas purchase. Why bother being an o/o.

250-300 a year? I guess you've never heard of Mercer, or landstar.

Coyote - my business was 1300 a month and 50k invested within 12 months, now I drive a 2014 Pete @2300 a month with full warranty till 6/16.
And my girl is runNing high mpgs. 7.5 to 8 consistently.
