I'm looking for outbound frieght out of Florida. Running a 53' refer. Going to NC, looking for some refer fright to help on fuel cost. What's the name of online broker?

    Hi Frank,
Would love to help you out but please provide a bit more information.
    Are you an owner operator?
Do you have your own authority (mc number)?
For what day are you looking to pick up a load?
Where in Florida are you and where in NC would you like to go?

There are thousands of "online brokers" out there :)

There is one load showing right now for tomorrow if that is what you are looking for:

Posted as Miami FL to Hickory, NC at $850 with one pick and 2 drops.
    Broker : Neutral Ground LLC

Also JB Hunt has a dry load (you would have to ask if they will load it on a reefer)
    Cantonment FL to Charlotte NC

Yes I'm a owner operator and I'm as green as grass. I'm near Daytona beach. Not sure what mc stands for? Bought used truck and trailer. Looking to drive first load back from NC but don't have exact location yet. I was told I could take a load out of Florida to help my fuel cost. Being there are thousands of loads out there, I'm not too picky. Getting in some practice would be good. Not to worried about getting a good deal, I'm making it on the product I'm bringing back. I was reading online that I could get a 10 day permit for the IFT( international fuel tax)? Could I get a temp on a portion tag? Heard I had to show up in person the first time to get one? If you could give me a couple of sites that I could look at would be great. I still have some research and work to do before I head out around mid to end of October.

Motor carrier number, if you're out running around without one of those finding loads out of FL is the least of your troubles.

I'm not. I've got a dot number on truck and have tags for Florida. I didn't know you needed a mc number but now I do. I'll look into it now. Thanks

    Uh...

Have you been running freight out there? When you're setting up with brokers/shippers, are they verifying your authority to move goods?

No. Truck is sitting. I've got a load in October. Picking up some Christmas greens. I have a business that serves the floral industry that my grandfather started. I've always wanted to drive, but not for a living.

So whose authority would you be running under?

You said you already have a USDOT number. Good. Next step is to file for an MC number here:

Get Authority to Operate (MC Number)

After that you need to look into insurance. Once that is sorted, you should look into getting an account with DAT Load Boards - DAT and/ or Truckstop https://truckstop.com/
^^ That is where you will be able to see all the available freight

I would also look into opening up and registering a company with the IRS:
S Corporations | Internal Revenue Service

This has all the info you need on IFTA and IRP:

Florida DHSMV FAQs on Trucking/Commercial Motor Carriers

For IFTA, you just order the stickers and pay a very small charge, then once you are running you file every quarter (3 months but not from when you start driving ::
    Reporting Quarter Due Dates

    • 1st Quarter (January-March) April 30
    • 2nd Quarter (April-June) July 31
    • 3rd Quarter (July-September) October 31
    • 4th Quarter (October-December) January 31)
And you pay based on where you've driven + fueled. So basically, if you start your first run Oct 1st, you would have to file and pay by January 31 for the months of Oct Nov and Jan.

    Frank3 Thanks this.
