Hi all, I'm looking into purchasing another truck and have it narrowed down to two trucks at this time. I like them both, they're both spec'd right for what I need, and they're both within budget but I was wondering which you'd all choose. Here's what I'm looking at:

Truck 1: 2015 Kenworth, isx engine, 550k total miles, 115k on inframe, 200k on new transmission, lots of other recent work done, excellent maintenance history, previous owner traded in on new truck.

Truck 2: 2022 international with 200k miles, x15 engine. Everything original, excellent condition, previous owner also traded this for a brand new one.

I like the kenworth a little better but feel like the international is the better buy as it's still original while the kw has lots of components with 2x the mileage and wear. Also the international has the newer engine and is about $7,000 less. Which would you choose?

What’s the rear end gear ratio on both of them?

Do you have any pictures you can post?

Does either one have factory warranty or warranty on the inframe left?

Why was the 2022 traded in is the question I’d ask. Might have some issues that have been covered up to sell. To new to trade it in.

Only you should decide on which truck would best suit your needs. KW & International are fine trucks. But many other variables come into play when choosing a truck IMHO. HP means nothing unless it's properly mated with a good tranny. A/T or Manual? Rears? Type of trailers? Interior comforts? Your Q is too vague and need specifics to help with insight. Kinda like having a sweet tooth and asking what candy to buy. Give us a little more into what you plan on doing and we can give a better resolution.

So, a 15 KW w/ ISX needed a trans at 350k and OH at 435k?

I think I'd steer clear of both of these trucks

From what you've described, it'd be the IH hands down. Less miles, less money, newer engine. I'm not sure but I think the X15 was known as the better engine

Have you done any oil samples, dynos and/or ECM checks on them yet? Why did you leave the asking prices out?

It's not really a fair question, some like Chevys, some like Fords. I am and always will be, a KWhopper fan, none better far as I'm concerned. Nothing wrong with the Cornbinder, I think still good trucks, and sounds like a better deal, but remember, that KW will always have resale. An IH, not so much. Since the bigger things have been done on the KWhopper, not much else can go bad for a while. You can expect all of that ahead with the IH, and why it was traded in the 1st place. KWs routinely go over a mil, and still a nice ride. The IH will be pretty tired by then. Go with the KW, you shan't be disappointed.

Run from the KW, inframe at 400k?

sounds like a created maintaince record and it was abused.

tell you truth, you asking shows you may not be ready to buy a truck.

Do your due diligence on the international and see what’s going on with it but look at others

I disagree. What's unusual about 435K in frame? Sounds normal to me. Generally speaking, KW owners have a bit more pride. It's the Volvos, Freightliners, and IHs that get neglected. To tell you the truth, while this person may or may not be ready for a truck, they had the smarts to come here and ask. Isn't that our mission here?
